“To renew or not to renew. That is the question” – I was very excited to get my Lenovo ThinkPad T470s today Wednesday 11.30.2022. I have done my homework and decided thet, for the money, the T470s is the one. I found it here on Amazon, albeit Renewed. But, it’s Amazon! I trus Amazon and have been a Prime Member for years. I had full confidence it will all be fine. I do not typically choose “Renewed” and actually, this is my first time buying “Rnewed”. And like I said, “It’s Amazon. It’ll all be fine”. I received my “new” laptop and was so happy. I took it out of the box, pressed the power button and voila!, nothing happened. The batteries were dead. No problem. The power adapter is included so I plugged it in. It starts and boots to the desktop. Yay! So I immediately try to connect to the internet. I type in my network password for 2.4Ghz and it “can’t connect”. Weird. I must have made an error typing. I try again and same thing. I try to connect to my 5Ghz and again, no joy. So I decide to open Notepad, type the password then copy and paste. And then I see the problem. The keys A,S,D,F,L,; are not working. It’s easy to replace the keyboard. It’s about $40. But, why should I do that when I just paid $234.59 for this renewed and guaranteed working ThinkPad T470s which two people signed off on was in perfect working order! So, instead of setting up my new laptop, I’m submitting a return, printing out the barcode and hazmat sticker to place on the box and driving to The UPS Store! . But again, I’m a Prime Memeber and Amazon always makes things right. So, I ordered the same Lenovo ThinkPad T470s “Renewed” again! It should arrive Friday 12.2.2022 but, today’s was delayed by a day so… we shall see. I will update my review when I receive my next new “renewed” laptop in a few days. Hopefully, I have nothing but praise to write 12-2-2022 update. I received my replacement today. When I plugged it in, a Windows message that it had only one battery! (this model has two batteries oem). I opened the case and sure thing, there was only one battery. I went to Amazon and the bot said I would hear from the seller ECO-TECH LLC would reach out in two days. But, they actaully responded in hours. Their message said “Hi Oscar. Can you explain? This laptop can come with an optional secondary battery, but I’m not sure if you mean it is missing the primary external battery.” I didn’t understand the question. There is no “Optional” battery. So I explained. And two hours later I had no reply so I wrote “Did you read my message and see the picture I took of the missing battery? Are you going to provide me the battery?” and ECO-TECH LLC did not reply. readio silence. Three hours later, without a reply from ECO-TECH LLC, I wrote “Ok, it’s been 3 hours and you have not replied. I will reach out to Amazon and share this transcript.”. If I don’t hear from the seller by morning, I have to click on the button “Report This Seller”. I hate to do it. Al I need is the battery whcih is missing! Is ECO-TECH LLC willing to have Amazon reprimand? I hope not. I guess I’ll find out in the morning. – By the way, I really like this laptop. I’ve already setup all my stuff. The keyboard is as nice as they say on YouTube. It’s very clean with barely a smudge. Shame someone signed off on this listed as “pre-owned product has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon qualified vendors. This product is in “Excellent condition” but, likely didn’t open it and notice a big battery wasn’t there. ▶I’ll update asap.

Lenovo Quality, don’t forget to update your drivers! – The unit I received is good cosmetic condition. I found only a few spots where the finish is worn, but nothing really too significant to complain about. The laptop booted right up and went into set-up mode. After the initial set-up I noticed that the screen brightness was not adjustable. The brightness slider would go up and down but the intensity stayed constant at a rather dim setting. After numerous Windows updates this brightness issue persisted. In the set-up window there is a pull-down labeled something like “Other Updates” where I found numerous Intel driver updates, one of them being a display driver update. This is the one you want to use because it corrected the brightness slider issue. Now the brightness is adjustable from low to very high intensity. The laptop boots up quickly and runs quietly and only gets slightly warm to the touch once you get your power profiles set. The CPU temperatures rarely get above 90F even while number crunching a real-time Planetary Orbit Calculator I use often. The next test will be running a Software Defined Radio front-end that is FFT intense to decode radio signals for audio listening. I will report back if I encounter any issues with this application although I don’t expect any since other Intel I5 based PCs run this software well enough. Now on to the batteries. There are two batteries in the T470s. Bat#1 is to supposed to drain first, then automatic switching lets Bat#2 take over. I have not been able to test the switching feature yet, but I did notice that my laptop has 4 to 5 hours of operating time indicated after a fresh charge. These are supposed to ship with batteries that still have at least 80% capacity remaining, so that would be around 8 or 9 hours of operation. I will update this review when I have more data on my batteries or if other events warrant an update. Overall, I like this laptop and I expect I should get good service from it. If you are looking for the reliability of a Lenovo, and don’t need the latest and greatest, I would recommend this unit to you.

Good Laptop; Great deal – I’ve had this refurbished laptop for a few months now and am very happy with it. It looked brand-new when I took it out of the box. I couldn’t tell it had ever been used. Everything worked perfectly on it. Best of all, it has the trackpoint nub in the keyboard for controlling the mouse which is a critical selling point for me. It is so much faster and easier than using a touch pad!
